On June 21, 2024, we celebrated Make Music Day by hosting numerous musical events throughout Henderson, NC, and Vance County, NC. The day was filled with diverse performances that brought the community together in harmony and joy. We were honored to be featured on the main Make Music Day website, showcasing our vibrant celebration.
Vance County recently celebrated Make Music Day on June 21st with an array of performances and activities that resonated throughout the community. This international event, which promotes the joy of making music, saw local musicians, bands, and enthusiasts coming together to create a day filled with melody and rhythm.
The day kicked off with an energetic opening ceremony at McGregor Hall, setting the tone for a day of diverse musical experiences. Mayor Melissa Elliott’s proclamation at Henderson City Hall emphasized the importance of music in bringing communities together.
The celebration featured a variety of performances across multiple venues in Vance County:
- Ben Parker and Mikayla Williams performed from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Versatrim, delighting attendees with their captivating melodies.
- Boomwhackers with the Whacking Band engaged participants in a fun and interactive session at Adcock Recreation Center from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Clayton Griffin led a bucket drumming class at the Henderson Family YMCA from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, offering a hands-on drumming experience.
The event also included:
- David Cole’s Carillon performance at First Baptist Church from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
- David Westbrook’s harmonica class at McGregor Hall from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Fuerza Activa Drumming and Dance at Hendfact from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, bringing vibrant rhythms and dance to the celebration.
A notable highlight was the Jimmy and the Sound Barriers performances at Satterwhite Point State Park. Their “Dancing to the Oldies” session from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM and “Bluegrass on the Grass” performance from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM drew significant crowds, showcasing their versatility and talent.
Throughout the day, venues such as McGregor Hall, Pro Nails, and Perry Memorial Library hosted a variety of acts, including soloists like Tia Catillia and interactive sessions like Live Karaoke at the Vance County Senior Center.
The closing ceremony at McGregor Hall from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM brought the event to a heartfelt conclusion, celebrating the community’s collective musical spirit.
Just Friends, a beloved local group, enchanted the audience with their captivating performances. Their set included a mix of well-known classics and original pieces, showcasing their versatility and deep connection with the community. The group’s melodic harmonies and engaging stage presence left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
In addition to Just Friends, other groups took the stage, each adding their unique sound to the evening’s festivities. The diverse lineup featured a range of musical styles, from soulful ballads to upbeat rhythms, ensuring that there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The performance at McGregor Hall was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of community, talent, and the shared love of music. Attendees were treated to a musical journey that highlighted the richness of Vance County’s local talent.
